Samoa Red Cross encourages young people to make a difference on World Blood Donor Day
On Friday 11 June, Samoa Red Cross is utilising World Blood Donor Day for the 2010 Tausala and Manaia Pageant. Club 25, a group of 16 to 25 year olds who give blood on a regular basis and are committed to saving lives, will be at the event encouraging young people to become blood donors and contribute to this global movement. The theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day is “New blood for Samoa, New blood for the world”. This 2010 Tausala and Manaia Pageant is focusing on encouraging youth to take action in their community and reduce the suffering of the most vulnerable people. The woman and man who have donated the most blood will be recognised and presented with gifts for their achievement.
The event will be held on Friday 11 June 2010 at 7.00 pm. It will be held in Maota o Tupulaga EFKS Hall, Sogi. The Samoa Red Cross Secretary General Tautala Mauala will give the opening speech; the keynote speech will be given by Club 25 Board Member and National Health Service Laboratory Technician Saifagaloa Sala. The pageant activities will include traditional wear, church wear, talent and an interview. The event will end with the election of the 2010–2012 Tausala and Manaia.
Leading up to the pageant, contestants have been committed to practicing their interview skills and preparing their presentations, including demonstrating their many talents. The contestants also have been working diligently on community projects such as tree planting in Lepa.
Samoa Red Cross is encouraging everyone to come and celebrate World Blood Donor Day and contribute by registering to donate blood to save lives.
